"Hey man, let's hit the Hiwassee on Sunday. I hear caddis are coming off like crazy."
"Why don't we go to Queen City instead and chase some carp?"
"Would you shut up about #$!&%ing carp? Meet at the store on exit 11 at 8."
This is becoming a dilemma. I want to fish for carp pretty much all the time. My trout-head angling partners would sooner sign up for lifetime memberships in PETA than cast a fly to a carp.
I suppose an assessment of priorities is in order. These are after all life-long friends, guys with whom I've spent many, many hours on the trail and on the stream. We have spent countless evenings around campfires discussing our lives, our beliefs, our trials and tribulations. We probably know more about each other than our own wives. Those are bonds that I suspect even they couldn't understand.
I guess when those things are considered and weighed against my selfish pursuit of carp, the true priority is clear. Obvious, even.
I need to get some new friends.
